This course will review the management of clinically localized renal masses and the recent AUA Guidelines that apply to this. This will include a review of tumor biology and the potential role of renal mass biopsy. Guidelines recommendations for patient evaluation and counseling will also be reviewed, and the current role for all of the major management strategies will be discussed. Oncologic and functional considerations and perioperative risk profiles will be reviewed for partial nephrectomy, radical nephrectomy, thermal ablation, and active surveillance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and risk stratify patients with localized renal masses
  • Counsel patients with localized renal masses about the various management strategies, including oncologic and functional considerations and potential morbidities
  • Role of renal biopsy
  • Manage patients with localized renal masses, including appropriate utilization of PN, RN, ablation and active surveillance
  • Apply the AUA Guidelines regarding the evaluation and management of localized renal masses safely and effectively
